Our History

In 1987 at Binghamton U Four Strong Latinas started SLU...!

National History

On December 1, 1987 at Binghamton University, Founding Mothers Cynthia Santiago, Adriana Zamora, Carmen Ibeth Garcia-Quinones and Carol Elizabeth Torres created an organization that would serve as a voice for women in an academic setting.

They envisioned an organization that would provide sincere sisterhood and unconditional support while actively promoting academic achievement, service to the community, and cultural enrichment. Almost three decades and more than 60 campuses later, the Hermanas of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority Inc. continue the legacy of our Founders’ vision by effectively bridging the gap between the Latino community and the campuses we represent.

Our goals and ideals continue to be exemplified by our Hermanas: Sisterhood, Leadership, Community Service, Cultural Awareness and Academic Excellence.
